Siwelele marked their Betway Premiership debut in emphatic fashion on Saturday night, securing a 3-1 victory over Golden Arrows in front of 22,000 passionate supporters at Bloemfontein’s Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium, affectionately known as The Slaughterhouse.
Coach Lehlohonolo Seema’s side fed off the electric atmosphere, striking twice in quick succession midway through the first half. Siviwe Magidigidi opened the scoring by smashing home a loose ball in the box, and just a minute later, Vincent Pule capitalised on a defensive error, rounding goalkeeper Edward Maova to slot in from a tight angle.
Arrows, led by Manqoba Mngqithi, showed glimpses of improvement and made three changes at halftime, which briefly paid off when Keenan Phillips headed in at the back post to reduce the deficit. However, Siwelele swiftly responded, with Magidigidi rising highest to nod home a Neo Rapoo corner, restoring the two-goal cushion.
Pule appeared to have grabbed his second of the night, but the offside flag denied him. Despite that, the result was never in doubt, as Siwelele announced their arrival in South Africa’s top flight with a confident, high-energy performance.
The homecoming wins not only gave fans reason to celebrate but also signalled that Siwelele are ready to compete at the highest level.
