Pimville residents plan to shut Maponya Mall

Pimeville residents in Soweto plan to shut Maponya Mall following two torched e-hailling vehicle Wednesday night. This incident resulted in one death, shot dead and two injuries of a driver and a passenger.

It is reported that suspects approached a vehicle at the entrance of the mall and opened fire, then set it alight. They proceeded to another vehicle to open fire and torch it.

Residents believe that Maponya Mall has to be boycotted as it shoulg have resolved the beef between taxi industry and e-hailing industry. A board stating “Boycott Maponya Mall.”

This tragedy comes hours after hours after South Africa National Taxi Taxi Council (SANTACO) issued a statement, demanding revised National Land Transport Act (NLTA) regulations. The statement emphasized the vacuum in the safety of commuters. Whereby there are reports of unaccounted crime in the e-hailing industry.
