Day 1,274 of Russia-Ukraine war amid U.S peace talk

As it marks day 1,274 Russian-Ukraine amid United States peace talks. This follows after the United States President Donald Trump said that U.S will provide protection and security to Ukraine.

Trump said this alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and seven helmsmen from Europe on Monday. Zelenskyy and Trump’s meeting comes after Trump hosted Putin at Alaska Summit and yielded no ceasefire.

As Aljazeera reported, Ukrainian military analyst, Lieutenant General Ihor Romanenko, told the publication that there is no decision that has been made from the viewpoint of security guarantees. From the meeting that was held on Monday, August 21.

However, Volodynyr Fesenko Head of Kyiv-based Penta think tank stated security guarantees are vague as they are dealing with Russia.”Russia has nuclear weapons and Americans or Europeans will avoid the risk of direct military conflict with Russia,” said Feseko.

A $100 Billion deal for future supply of U.S-made weapons which will be paid by Europe was agreed by Zelensky. Germany also agreed to contribute $500bn for military equipment. This follows a successful meeting at the White House than the one held in February when Zelensky was sweared on.

This time around, Zelensky wore a black suit not his military regalia. Feseko stated that the White House did not want another scandal.

A Ukranian wa veteran, Yuri Bohdanchenko told Aljazeera that while Western politicians see any conflict as beneficiall to their nations’ interests.”Putin has the mindset of a hoodlum who always wants to look tough,” said Bohdanchenko, who lost his right leg after stepping on a Russian landmine in the southern region of Kherson in 2023.

He emphasized that the peace settlement guarantees are complicated by fundamental differences. The way the West and Russia see the war is not how Ukraine see it.
