A thrilling midweek round of Betway Premiership action ended with Sekhukhune United and Kaizer Chiefs maintaining perfect starts to the season, while Orlando Pirates finally registered their first league victory.

The Buccaneers bounced back from two opening defeats by edging Stellenbosch FC 1-0 on Wednesday evening. Rising star Kamogelo Sebelebele netted the decisive goal in the 15th minute, securing three much-needed points and lifting Pirates to 11th place. Stellenbosch remain winless after three outings, hovering just above the relegation playoff zone on goal difference.

Elsewhere, Marumo Gallants suffered their first setback of the campaign with a 1-0 defeat to AmaZulu at Princess Magogo Stadium. Hendrick Ekstein struck late in the first half to hand Usuthu their second win of the season.

Meanwhile, defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns continued their steady climb with a professional 2-0 victory over newly-promoted Magesi FC at Seshego Stadium. Goals from Jayden Adams and Peter Shalulile in the final 20 minutes sealed the result, moving Sundowns up to third on the log. Shalulile’s strike also drew him level with Siyabonga Nomvethe’s long-standing scoring record.

With three rounds completed, Sekhukhune United and Kaizer Chiefs lead the standings with flawless records, while the chasing pack begins to take shape. The season already promises high drama as early title contenders stake their claims.
