The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced a nationwide recall of Benny Beef and Chicken Stock Cubes, after it was discovered that the products contain incorrect sodium labelling. The watchdog confirmed the recall in a statement on Thursday, warning that the actual salt levels may be higher than those declared on the packaging.

The recall, initiated by Tiger Brands, covers all 12, 24, and 48 cube packs of Benny Beef and Chicken Flavoured Stock Cubes. These batches have been on shelves since 2023 and carry a best-before date of 31 July 2027.

According to Tiger Brands, the sodium content listed on the packaging is inaccurate, posing potential health risks for consumers, particularly those who need to manage their salt intake for dietary or medical reasons.

The NCC stressed that providing incorrect nutritional information prevents consumers from making informed food choices and urged anyone who purchased the affected stock cubes to return them to the point of sale for a refund.
