Two detectives probing Dj Sumbody’s case are threatened

Two detectives investigating Oupa Sefoka’s known as Dj Sumbody murder case were allegedly threatened by a senior police official, family, and friends of the suspect. The detectives reportedly had threatened on their way from court sessions in Vereeniging, Gauteng.

These detectives hold other high-profile cases after the one of Dj Sumbody. According to Sowetan Live, the two detectives have applied protection as  submitted by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA). The application was received by the National Police Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola in August 2024.

In the application letter, it was read that the accused are 100% connected to the case as investigated by the detectives. The accused might face a lengthy sentence and possibly a life-time imprisonment. “It is clear that lives of the investigating officers are currently in danger as well as the safety of police dockets,” reads the letter from Sowetan.

The letter requested a safeguard of the detectives and investigators as these organized criminals could do anything to destroy the evidence. Lumka Mahanjana, NPA Spokesperson confirmed the letter. A team of bodyguards is assigned to guard the detectives 24/7.

As the outcomes of the request are granted, there is no benefit of a doubt that the detectives lives are in allegedly in danger. This follows few days after Matlatla “Cat” was denied bail on August 20 at Alexandar Magistrate’s Court.

Behind the assassination of Dj Sumbody there is Tankiso “TK” Molefe in custody and Michael Tau, Tiego Mabusela, and Musa Kekana who are alleged as hit-men. Dj Sumbody was gunned down along his two bodyguards Sandile Myeza and Sibusiso Nokoena in November 2022 at Woodmead.

The accused were linked with other high-profile assassinations including Armand Swart killed in April 2024 and Hector “Dj Vintos” Buthelezi killed in March 2022. All this killings were linked to the same gun that attempted to kill Tebogo Thobejane in April 2023 at Sandton, who is the ex-lover of the accused mastermind of the killings Matlala.
