Orlando Pirates extended their winning run in the Betway Premiership to five matches after defeating TS Galaxy 2-0 at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The Buccaneers made a bright start as Tshepang Moremi struck the post within the opening five minutes. Their early pressure paid off after 20 minutes when Evidence Makgopa calmly converted from the penalty spot. The penalty was awarded following a foul on Masindi Nemtajela, who was making his first league start.
Galaxy gradually found their rhythm, with Puso Dithejane forcing a save from Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine. The hosts, however, nearly doubled their lead just before the break, but a mix-up between Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Lebone Seema at the far post allowed the visitors to escape.
After the restart, Pirates maintained control and continued to create chances. Substitute Oswin Appollis linked up well with Dean Hotto, whose strike was saved by Galaxy goalkeeper Ira Tape. The Buccaneers eventually secured the result in stoppage time when Tshegofatso Mabasa, introduced from the bench, met Hotto’s cross with a precise header into the bottom corner.
The win marked Pirates’ fifth in seven league matches this season, consolidating their strong start to the campaign. For TS Galaxy, the defeat was their third in eight outings, leaving them with work to do in order to find consistency.
With confidence building and momentum on their side, Pirates will look to continue their impressive form as they push towards the top of the Premiership table.
