WSU staff member shot dead at Mthatha Campus

The Eastern Cape Police confirmed the death of a senior official from Walter Sisulu University (WSU). It was reported that the deceased was found dead in a stationary vehicle at Mthata Campus on Thursday evening in the Eastern Cape province. 

Brigadier Nobuntu Gatana, stated that preliminary forensic analysis shows the victim sustained multiple gunshots while seated in the driver’s seat. “The motive remains unknown, ” said Brigadier Gatana.

This is the second shooting to happen at campus in months. In April, Sisonke Mbolekwa who was a Bachelor of Education student was allegedly shot-dead by the Manelisi Mampane, the university’s residence manager.

The campus adjacent entrance is consideres a crime-scene. Yet police have not yet revealed the deceased as they are still waiting for the next-of-kin notification as per the South African Police Service protocol.

According to News24, Acting Police Commissioner Major-General Thandiswa Kupiso asked for avoidance of public speculation to preserve respect for the investigations. Police have insured that they have mobilised resources to collect all leads in the staff member’s murder.
