The Afrika Mayibuye Movement has been rocked by a wave of resignations, signalling growing uncertainty within the organization’s ranks. On 25 November 2025, two senior members tendered their resignations, citing personal decisions and concerns about the movement’s direction.

In a strongly worded letter, Lucky Tumelo Malema, who served as Regional Deputy Treasurer, announced his immediate departure. Malema expressed regret over leaving but emphasized that his decision was made on his own terms.

Afrika Mayibuye faces leadership inaccuracies.
Afrika Mayibuye leaders leave the movement one by one, three resigned in 24 hours.

Quoting revolutionary leader Amílcar Cabral, Malema wrote “never has it been more certain that our victory depends principally on our own actions. Tell no lies, claim no easy victories.” Malema thanked the organization for the privilege of serving and hinted at future plans, stating that he will announce his new move very soon.

Shortly after, Xidohi Chauke, the Gauteng Provincial Organizer, also stepped down. In his resignation letter, Chauke wished the movement well but urged it to steer in the right direction for “true total liberation and emancipation of the people.”

These resignations come amid speculation of internal divisions and strategic disagreements within Afrika Mayibuye Movement. The departures could impact the movement’s grassroots mobilization and provincial structures ahead of upcoming political campaigns. The organization has yet to release an official statement addressing the resignations or outlining its next steps.
