The Bolsheviks Party of South Africa has applauded the Fetakgomo-Tubatse Municipality’s decision to fire Joel Makgata, the municipal manager, on the grounds that he committed crimes against the municipality while he was in office.
Makgata has allegedly been “holding this municipality to ransom and running it like his own personal fiefdom,” according to the party. The Bolshevik Party explained that the council’s authority to hold the accounting officer responsible, including severing employment ties, is unaffected by the Makoti ruling, which found that Makgata was suspended for longer than allowed by law.
The council’s choice to file an appeal request suspends the Makoti judgment’s implementation, the party underlined. Bolsheviks party stressed that partisan politics should not be allowed to erode the council’s collective decision-making process, which is a fundamental component of democracy.
“We welcome and commend the decisive resolution taken by Fetakgomo-Tubatse Municipality Council to terminate the services municipal manager,” the statement read. The Democratic Alliance (DA) was also criticised by the Bolsheviks Party for trying to politicise the matter and was urged to stop doing so.
There are concerns about the DA’s intentions given their abrupt interest in defending Makgata, the city manager. The welfare of the municipal manager is a real issue for BPSA. The DA’s activities appear to be more of a last-ditch effort to divert attention away from the actual problems facing the town.
In their statement, the Bolsheviks Party strongly supports the Fetakgomo-Tubatse Municipality’s decision to take action against Makgata. “This is a clear message that the abuse of power will not be tolerated,” the statement said at its conclusion.
