Kaizer Chiefs’ recent performances have given the technical team plenty of reason to smile, with the club’s rock-solid defence emerging as the highlight of their campaign.

Assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef praised the team’s resilience at the back after they went three consecutive games without conceding a goal. “I think that is the most important thing for us, we are so happy about our defense,” he said, stressing that clean sheets are now a top priority for the club.

Youssef revealed that both league and cup competitions have been platforms for reinforcing the need for defensive discipline. “We discussed even in the cup about our defense. We need to be stronger; we cannot accept that one of the biggest teams in South Africa concedes more goals,” he explained.

For Chiefs, the renewed focus on defensive solidity is about restoring pride as much as it is about results. With South African football’s most decorated club determined to return to its glory days, shutting out opponents has become the foundation for rebuilding confidence and consistency.

As the season progresses, the Amakhosi faithful will be hoping that this defensive resolve translates into the attacking fluidity and winning mentality that once defined the club. For now, though, keeping it tight at the back is proving to be the source of the team’s happiness and a crucial step towards reclaiming their place among the country’s elite.
