Bradley Grobler rolled back the years with a vintage performance as Sekhukhune United stunned Kaizer Chiefs 3-1 in a Betway Premiership clash at FNB Stadium on Tuesday night.

The veteran forward, who turned 37 on the day struck twice and set up Thabang Monare for the third goal to secure Babina Noko’s unbeaten start to the season. The brace took Grobler’s career tally to 123 goals, 12 of which have come against Chiefs cementing his reputation as a consistent thorn in Amakhosi’s defense.

The result saw Sekhukhune rise to the top of the Betway Soccer Premiership League (PSL) table with 16 points from six matches. They are two clear points away from the defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns. Meanwhile, Chiefs slipped three points off the pace and tasted defeat for the first time this campaign.

Amakhosi’s defense which had not been breached all season was finally undone by Grobler’s predatory finishing. Chiefs had entered the game boasting a flawless defensive record, but Sekhukhune’s efficiency in attack ensured that run came to an emphatic end.

Sekhukhune’s win underlines their growing stature in the league, with Grobler’s experience and Monare’s industry proving decisive. However, Chiefs’ loss serves as a reality check highlighting the work still needed if they are to mount a serious title challenge.
