Content creator and entrepreneur Kaylakimkay (real name Kayla Kim Meiring) is celebrating a major milestone after her brand, AfroCurl, secured two prestigious awards at the 4th annual Top 16 Youth-Owned Brand Awards (YOBA). Despite being a first-time nominee, AfroCurl walked away with both the Top Hair and Beauty Brand and the coveted Top Brand of 2025 awards.

Founded in 2022, AfroCurl began as a natural hair care brand focused on curls and coils, but it has since evolved to accommodate all hair types. In just a few years, it has grown into a powerful player in the haircare industry, under the dynamic leadership of Kaylakimkay.

Sharing her excitement and gratitude, Kaylakimkay took to social media to thank her supporters: “Thank you 16 YOBA for giving me a platform. Thank you, my hunays! This was our first nomination, and we won 2 awards including Top Brand of 2025! We give God all the glory! AfroCurl is only getting started! Congratulations, let us continue to pray, support, and bring about change.”

The influencer, who has built a strong following on TikTok, also revealed her recent move to Johannesburg, where she’s expanding operations. She recently posted a joyful video dancing in her new warehouse, a key milestone in AfroCurl’s journey of growth and expansion.

The YOBA Awards are known for honoring black youth excellence in brand-building and celebrating the impact of youth-led businesses. Other notable winners at this year’s ceremony included NOH Eyewear, Motsepe Advertising, Computer Guardian, and content creator Grace Mondlana, who received the Top Personalities & Influencer Brand award.

With two major awards under her belt and a growing business footprint, Kaylakimkay is proving that AfroCurl is not just a brand, it is a movement.
