In a development that has sent political shockwaves across the country. Sandton Police confirmed the presence of controversial politician and businessman Kenny Kunene at the home of Katiso Molefe, the man alleged to be the mastermind behind the murder of popular musician DJ Sumbody, during an arrest operation on Monday morning.

Speaking to News24, police officials revealed that Kunene, a former Deputy President of the Patriotic Alliance and self-styled “Sushi King,” was at Molefe’s residence in Sandton when elite law enforcement units raided the property as part of an ongoing murder investigation. Molefe, who has been under scrutiny since late 2022 following the high-profile assassination of Oupa “DJ Sumbody” Sefoka, was arrested without incident.

Police have yet to confirm whether Kunene is facing any criminal charges in connection with the case, but authorities say his presence during such a sensitive operation raises significant questions. “He was found on the premises at the time of the arrest. We are not ruling anything out at this stage. All individuals found at the scene are being questioned,” confirmed a senior police source, Speaking to News24 on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the investigation.

Kunene’s involvement whether incidental or otherwise is already drawing intense scrutiny. Social media exploded with speculation on Monday afternoon, with hashtags like #KuneneRaid and #DJ Sumbody trending nationwide.

Molefe, a little-known figure until recently, is now accused of orchestrating one of the most shocking killings in South African entertainment history. DJ Sumbody was gunned down in a targeted shooting in Johannesburg in November 2022, sparking widespread calls for justice and investigations into organized crime networks linked to the music industry.

Contacted by News24 late Monday, Kunene confirmed he was present during the arrest but dismissed any suggestion of wrongdoing. “I was visiting a friend. I had no idea about any of these allegations. The police did their job and treated everyone with respect. People must not jump to conclusions I have nothing to hide,” he said.
