Lorch seals permanent move to Wydad Casablanca
by Lwandiso Simanga
Bafana Bafana star Thembinkosi Lorch, is set to continue his career in Morocco after completing a permanent transfer from Mamelodi Sundowns to Wydad Casablanca. The 32-year-old impressed during his loan spell with the Moroccan giants, featuring in the Botola Pro League and making a mark at the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA, where he faced Manchester City, Juventus, and Al Ain, scoring once in the tournament.
Lorch joined Sundowns in January 2024 to reunite with coach Rulani Mokwena and later linked up with him again at Wydad earlier this year. His short-term loan concluded after the Club World Cup, but Wydad moved to secure his services permanently following weeks of negotiations.
While his agent Steve Kapeluschnik confirmed the move, he refrained from disclosing details due to contractual confidentiality. The transfer marks Lorch’s return to North Africa, where he will aim to build on his strong performances and help The Red Castle chase further domestic and continental success.
