Saint Eloi Lupopo assistant coach Yassine Salmi has dismissed suggestions that the team depends too heavily on defender Mukoko Amale following their 3–1 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League Group C opener on Saturday. The DR Congo outfit struggled at Loftus Versfeld, with Mukoko absent due to a two-match suspension, leading to speculation that his influence was missed.

Salmi insisted that Lupopo’s identity and performance are shaped collectively rather than by any single player. He emphasised that victories and setbacks must be shared across the entire squad, noting that no individual should be singled out as the deciding factor in their results.

Reflecting on the match, Salmi admitted that Lupopo’s failure to take their chances was decisive, particularly in the second half. He stressed the importance of converting opportunities in upcoming fixtures and expressed confidence that their home form in Lubumbashi will provide an opportunity to regain momentum in the group.

The assistant coach also praised Sundowns, acknowledging their quality and describing them as a top-class side. Beyond the result, Salmi highlighted the positive experience his team had in South Africa, stating that the hospitality received from Sundowns was exceptionally good. He remarked that their treatment in Pretoria was significantly better than what they encountered earlier in the campaign during their preliminary round trip to face Orlando Pirates.

Salmi concluded by expressing gratitude to Sundowns for their professionalism and warm welcome, affirming that such experiences contribute positively to continental competition.
