Mamelodi Sundowns chairman Thlopie Motsepe and Kenneth Simmons, son of Kaizer Chiefs marketing director Jessica Motaung, are among 30 aspiring coaches taking part in the latest SAFA C License coaching course in Gauteng. The program, organized by the South African Football Association (SAFA), runs from 4 to 11 October and aims to enhance the technical knowledge and coaching expertise of participants within South African football.

Motsepe’s involvement in the course reflects his growing interest in the technical and developmental side of the game. In 2023, he completed his SAFA D License, the entry-level qualification, through SAFA Ekurhuleni. During that time, he shared the class with Kaitlin Hunt, daughter of veteran coach Gavin Hunt, as part of a group of 37 candidates at Germiston Stadium.

SAFA President Danny Jordaan previously commended Motsepe’s participation in the D License course, noting that it would provide him with valuable insight into the technical dimensions of football management knowledge that could further strengthen his leadership role at Mamelodi Sundowns.

The SAFA C License serves as the next step for those looking to progress in coaching, focusing on more advanced tactical, analytical, and leadership aspects of the sport. Participants will undergo intensive theoretical and practical sessions over the week-long program, guided by experienced SAFA instructors.

Motsepe’s continued commitment to coaching education underscores his hands-on approach to football development and his dedication to understanding the game beyond the boardroom. Alongside figures like Simmons, his participation highlights a new generation of South African football leaders seeking to bridge the gap between management and technical expertise. The SAFA C License course runs until 11 October, with all 30 candidates set to complete both practical and classroom-based assessments before certification.
