City of Johannesburg’s MMC for Public Safety, Dr Mgcini Tshwaku, deployed by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has spearheaded a major breakthrough in the fight against narcotics.

Acting on intelligence, Tshwaku led a joint law enforcement operation in Sandton, resulting in the seizure of large quantities of narcotics and dagga, with an estimated street value of R21 million.

The operation is hailed as one of the biggest busts in the city this year.Dr Tshwaku commended the officers involved, reaffirming the City’s commitment to cracking down on drug syndicates that threaten the safety and well-being of communities.

“This bust sends a strong message that the City of Johannesburg will not tolerate criminal enterprises operating with impunity,” Tshwaku said. Authorities have confirmed that arrests were made during the operation, and investigations are ongoing to dismantle the broader drug network believed to be operating in the Sandton area.

The bust forms part of intensified public safety initiatives under the City’s multi-pronged strategy to combat crime, particularly in affluent and high-risk areas.
