News from Burkina Faso!
President Ibrahim Traoré has introduced a transformative prison reform that is setting a new standard for justice and rehabilitation. Under the new criminal law, prisoners and those awaiting sentencing can now contribute to the country’s agricultural sector, with one month of work reducing their sentence by three months.
From today, our prisoners will be working in our agricultural sector while their sentences are reduced. Our laws must represent African values,” said President Traoré.
This groundbreaking approach prioritizes rehabilitation over punishment, strengthens agricultural development, and promotes restorative justice. It’s a powerful reminder that empathetic leadership can drive meaningful change and create a brighter future for all.
