Operation Dudula has strongly denied claims made by Newzroom Afrika during its 15 September broadcast, which alleged that the movement was involved in an incident where a child died after being denied medical care.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the group called the allegations “false and baseless,” insisting that it has never participated in or endorsed actions that would put children’s lives at risk. Operation Dudula said such reporting is reckless and misrepresents the organisation’s objectives, which focus on lawful, community-driven initiatives to address socio-economic challenges.

The movement has demanded that Newzroom Afrika retract the statement and issue a public apology, warning that legal action may be considered if the broadcaster fails to comply. “We will not be silenced by misinformation,” the statement said, adding that Operation Dudula will continue advocating for communities within the bounds of the law.

This comes amid heightened scrutiny of social movements in South Africa, where media reports have occasionally sparked public debate over accountability and the responsibilities of community organisations. Operation Dudula emphasised its commitment to transparent and lawful operations while holding media houses accountable for spreading inaccuracies.
