In response to swirling speculation about a potential political future. Billionaire businessman and Confederation of African Football (CAF) President, Patrice Motsepe has firmly stated that he has no intention of entering the political arena.

Speaking at a business forum in Sandton on Friday, Motsepe addressed growing public interest in his possible political aspirations, saying, “I do not need to be in politics to make a contribution to South Africa. My commitment to the country has always been through business, philanthropy, and sports development.”

The remarks come amid ongoing public discourse around business leaders transitioning into politics, especially with elections looming in 2026.

Motsepe, who is the founder and executive chairman of African Rainbow Minerals, has long been seen as a figure of influence beyond the boardroom particularly due to his philanthropic work through the Motsepe Foundation and his high-profile role in African football governance.

While some political commentators have suggested that Motsepe could be a unifying figure in a divided political landscape, the businessman was unequivocal in dismissing the idea. “South Africa is full of talented, passionate leaders in politics. My role is different, and I’m proud of it,” he added.

Motsepe’s family is no stranger to politics. His brother-in-law is President Cyril Ramaphosa but the mining magnate has consistently maintained a non-partisan public image.

With the 2026 elections approaching and political alliances shifting. Some speculate that public figures like Motsepe may still be courted by political parties seeking credibility and economic confidence.

But for now, Motsepe’s message is clear, his influence will remain off the ballot.
