Orlando Pirates Football Club has officially appointed defender Nkosinathi Sibisi as the new team captain ahead of the 2025/26 season. The leadership role had remained vacant following the departure of former captain Innocent Maela, who led the team since 2022 after taking over from long-time skipper Happy Jele.
In line with club tradition, the captaincy was determined through a confidential vote among the players. Sibisi emerged as the unanimous choice to lead the Buccaneers on and off the field.
Reacting to his appointment, Sibisi expressed gratitude and commitment: “It is truly an honour and privilege to be named captain of this great institution. It’s a responsibility that I accept and promise to fulfil the role in the best way I possibly can.”
Supporting Sibisi in his new role will be Thapelo Xoki and Mbekezeli Mbokazi, who have been named Vice-Captains.
The club looks to begin the new season with a strong leadership team and renewed focus under Sibisi’s guidance.
