Local artist Molimisi “Dr Nel” Baatsi found dead after performing at a village event

Police in Tom Burke, Limpopo, have launched a culpable homicide investigation into the death of local artist Molimisi “Dr Nel” Baatsi, 31, who was discovered dead on a village road in the early hours of Sunday, November 2, 2025. 

According to Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, officers were called to Phetogo Drive in Ga-Seleka about 04h00 and discovered Baatsi’s body laying face down. Witpoort Emergency Services paramedics came shortly thereafter and pronounced him dead on the scene. 

According to preliminary investigations, Baatsi played earlier that night at the grand inauguration of a local pub. His final Facebook Live video, recorded just before his death, depicted him entertaining followers at the event.

Police have not yet confirmed the specific details of the occurrence, and a post-mortem examination will determine the exact cause of death. Authorities have asked anyone with knowledge to call Detective Sergeant Lesiba Tsebe to help in the investigation. 

Baatsi’s death has sent shockwaves across the local entertainment industry, where he was regarded as a rising star in the Lekompo music scene, revered for his enthusiasm and ability to connect with fans.
