Crime expert Calvin Rafadi says he is ready to face the Madlanga Commission in public after meeting the deadline to file his answering affidavit.

Rafadi, who has been drawn into what he calls unfortunate SAPS unit infighting, insists he has nothing to hide and wants to restore his reputation. His name surfaced in the commission showing him on whatsapp messages asking for petrol money from the alleged underworld kingpin, Vusimuzi “Cat” Molefe.

“My name was dragged badly into this, their motives are harmful to the fight against organized crime in South Africa,” Rafadi said.

He maintains his innocence, saying he intends to demonstrate his contributions to solving major crimes and his covert operational role with the SAPS Organized Crime Units and intelligence structures.

Rafadi now wants the commission to use its discretion to place him on the witness stand in full public view. The Madlanga Commission continues its inquiry into alleged misconduct and rivalries within the police’s elite investigative divisions.
