A bold new rugby competition, R360, has reportedly secured the signatures of four of South Africa’s most prominent Springboks, signalling a major step toward its planned September 2026 debut.

Fronted by former England centre Mike Tindall, Bath executive Stuart Hooper, Wasserman’s Mark Spoors, and ex-LIV Golf lawyer John Loffhagen, R360 positions itself as a tier above traditional club rugby. Inspired by disruptive models like the Indian Premier League and LIV Golf, the league aims to deliver a global “grand prix”-style season featuring eight men’s and four women’s teams.

Matches are set to be staged in high-profile venues worldwide, including Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Barcelona’s Nou Camp, and venues in São Paulo, New York, and Los Angeles. The format will condense the season into dynamic, spectator friendly events designed to attract a new wave of fans and investors.

R360’s ambition Is to contract 200 male players. With the recent Springbok additions, the tally stands at around 160. The Telegraph reports that All Blacks star Ardie Savea is also on the league’s radar. While the names of the South African signings remain undisclosed, it is confirmed that double World Cup winner Cheslin Kolbe is not among them, as he plans a return to domestic rugby after his stint in Japan.

The concept reportedly gained momentum during positive discussions held during the British and Irish Lions’ Australian tour. Sources suggest that governing bodies and player unions have responded favourably, potentially setting the stage for one of the most significant shake ups in professional rugby’s history.
