Springbok stalwarts Bongi Mbonambi and Handré Pollard are gearing up for a tough clash against Italy this Saturday at Loftus Versfeld, despite the Azzurri’s 10th place in the world rankings and a number of key absentees.

Following a dominant 54-7 win over the Barbarians in Cape Town, the Springboks now face Italy in the first of two home Tests. Mbonambi praised the Italians’ passion and structure, crediting coach Gonzalo Quesada for instilling belief in a hard-working squad. He warned that, despite a smaller player pool, Italy remains a dangerous opponent.

Pollard echoed the sentiment, noting Italy’s growing competitiveness and physicality. He emphasized that the Boks must meet high internal standards and be ready for a physical contest.

Pollard, who returns to play at Loftus after several years abroad, is excited to be back on home soil. As he starts at fly-half, he faces stiff competition from Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu and Manie Libbok, which he says drives the team to improve.

With passion, pride, and depth in talent, the Springboks are taking nothing for granted as they prepare for a spirited Italian side.
