A male student has been suspended by the University of Limpopo (UL) in response to grave claims that he attempted to rape a female classmate. As it begins a formal inquiry into the incident, the institution issued an official statement confirming the suspension, which went into effect on Monday, August 4.

The university reaffirmed its strong opposition to gender-based violence (GBV) and called the accusations “deeply concerning”. The University places a high priority on each student’s safety, dignity, and well-being because it is a student-centered school. The statement stated that GBV allegations are taken very seriously.

For the impacted student, university administrators have activated a variety of support services, including as psychosocial therapy and assistance from the Gender Desk. Disciplinary actions will be taken in line with the university’s internal policies until the investigation’s conclusion.

The university has also urged anyone impacted by violence or abuse to access the relevant support services and asked staff and students to maintain composure during the process. To maintain justice, safety, and accountability on campus, the University of Limpopo keeps up its close collaboration with pertinent parties.
