Yusuf Maart Absent from Chiefs’ European Tour Amid Imminent Transfer

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Yusuf Maart has missed the club’s pre-season tour to the Netherlands, fuelling speculation about his imminent move to Europe. The 28-year-old is reportedly finalising a transfer to an Austrian club, with only his work visa still pending.

Maart’s absence from the two-week tour, which includes five friendlies against top Dutch teams, is not due to injury but signals the final stages of his overseas switch. This move comes shortly after he signed a contract extension with Chiefs, highlighting his growing profile in international football.

A key figure in Chiefs’ recent success, Maart scored the winning goal in their 2–1 Nedbank Cup final victory over Orlando Pirates a moment that ended a long trophy drought and secured CAF Confederation Cup qualification.

His expected departure adds to the reshuffle under new head coach Nasreddine Nabi. Venezuelan Edson Castillo has left, while Siphesihle Ndlovu joins the midfield. Chiefs have also bolstered their squad with Ethan Chislett, Flavio Silva, and defenders Thabiso Monyane, Paseka Mako, and Nkanyiso Shinga.

As the team prepares for tough European fixtures, Maart’s upcoming move marks another milestone in the global rise of South African football talent.
