Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Yusuf Maart is set to renew his contract with the club next week, according to his agent Karabo Tshabuse. Maart’s initial three-year deal, signed after his transfer from Sekhukhune United, is set to expire at the end of June.

The 2024/25 season marked a high point for both Maart and the club. The midfielder played a key role in helping Chiefs lift the Nedbank Cup, securing a 2-1 win over their fierce rivals, Orlando Pirates, in Durban. Maart was the match-winner, scoring the decisive goal that not only clinched the trophy but also secured Chiefs a spot in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup, ending a ten-year trophy drought for the team.

Despite his pivotal contribution, discussions around Maart’s contract had been ongoing until recently. Tshabuse confirmed to SABC Sport that a new agreement is now on the horizon, although specific terms of the deal remain undisclosed.

As Chiefs gear up for their pre-season tour in the Netherlands, they are actively reshaping the squad. In addition to Maart’s imminent renewal, the club has bolstered its defense by signing former Orlando Pirates duo Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane on free transfers. Several departures have also taken place as part of the squad overhaul.

The contract renewal of Maart comes as a major boost for Amakhosi, who are looking to build on their recent success and push for continental glory.
